BERRY - Colonel Logan Carroll Berry, 95, passed away on April 26, 1997. Colonel Berry was born in Starke and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. He was the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. Ned Carroll Berry of Jacksonville. Colonel Berry graduated from Staunton Military Academy in Virginia and the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1924. Colonel Berry served at many Army posts in the United States, Panama, and Germany both during and after the War. His last assignment was Military Attache to the American Embassy in Mexico City, Mexico. During World War II he served with the Armored Forces in England, France and Germany as the Commanding Officer of several armored brigades and groups. He also served on General George Patton's staff as Commanding Officer of the Tank Destroyers. After retirement from the Army, Colonel Berry served as Assistant Director of Civil Defense for the State of Oregon. Returning to Fort Lauderdale in the early 60's, he was in the Administrative Office at Nova University at its inception. Colonel Berry is survived by his loving wife, Betty Brownlow Berry, daughter of the late Mary Ann and Walter Brownlow of Jacksonville. He is also survived by his daughter, Carroll Berry Amos of Fort Lauderdale; his sister, Mrs. Isabel Fleece of Macon, Georgia; granddaughter, Lee Steinborg of Tequesta; grandson, Patrick O'Loughlin of Fort Lauderdale; and four great-granddaughters.
